Want to know how to produce these lovely rose ruffles to the side elevation of a cake. Now’s your opportunity.
In this class you will be working on both a sponge base and a polystyrene dummy. In the morning we will be discussing the differences between gum pastes and their uses. How to colour paste with gel and paste colours, and how to embellish with edible paints, powders, glitters and liquids.
You'll get hands on and create a 2 tier cake to take home.
Firstly you will cover a 6" Sponge base in a choice of your colour sugarpaste. You will then be shown how too cut, level, fill and crumb coat, before covering to a professional smooth finish. You with then learn how to stack professionally.
We will then move on to designing our side templates, and using Mexican/modeling paste you will learn how to produce fine ruffle ribbons to attach to the previously prepared polystyrene dummy in the vintage style rose ruffle effect. Please be aware that this process it very time consuming so some students who work at a methodical pace may not complete fully.
This is an informal day open to anyone who is already competent in covering cakes in sugarpaste and wants to perfect new skills. If you haven't, please look at our beginner’s class before moving on to this class.
Please note the ruffle effect is taught using dummy cakes so that we can concentrate on decorating techniques. You’ll take home your own decorated dummy cake, which will be perfect to display or promote in your portfolio
